How do I transfer my domain to you?

UK domains (all domains that end .uk)

Domains ending in .uk require 2 simple steps to be completed to transfer them in instantly:

1) Update the Tag to STACK.

2) We complete the transfer via our hosting control panel.

To do these steps:

  • Ask your current domain provider to change the Tag of the domain name to STACK (most providers allow this via their control panel)
  • Notify us of the transfer and we will complete the transfer via our hosting control panel.
  • The transfer will complete almost instantly.

GTLD domains (ending in .com, .net, .org and most other domains)

  • Ask your current domain provider for the domain name Authorisation Code (Auth or EPP code)
  • Make sure you are listed as the Admin Contact, as an e-mail will get sent here
  • Notify us of the transfer and we will continue the process via our hosting control panel
  • An email will be sent - usually instantly but can take up to 6 hours - to the e-mail address listed as the Admin Contact
  • Follow the link in this e-mail and Approve the transfer by entering the authorisation code obtained earlier
  • Once authorised the transfer will complete automatically within 5 days

CentralNIC domains (ending in .uk.com, .gb.com, .eu.com, .uk.net, .gb.net and .eu.net)

  • Ask your current domain provider for the domain's Authorisation Code (Auth or EPP code)
  • Provide the authorisation code to us
  • We'll be prompted for the Authorisation Code, which we will use to complete the process.
  • The transfer will complete automatically within 5 days

Transfers from specific providers

We've also made some handy guides to transfer your domain from popular providers, so you can start saving on renewal fees. While the information is largely the same as above, they go in to detail about how to get what you need - like the Authorisation Code - from each specific provider.

What if I want to keep my domain elsewhere?

That's no problem at all. You may wish, for whatever reason, to keep your domain elsewhere. We understand that this situation arises sometimes.

If that's the case, to host your website with us, you'll still need a SSL certificate to secure your site and protect form submissions, as well as ensure you continue to rank well with search engines such as Google and Bing.

You have two options available if you keep your domain elsewhere:

  1. Change the nameservers for your domain to: ns1.stackdns.com, ns2.stackdns.com, ns3.stackdns.com, ns4.stackdns.com
Our free SSL certificates are generated for all domains that use our nameservers.
  2. Purchase and install a SSL certificate
